Bronte Biathlon - FAQ's

Bronte Biathlon - Frequently Asked Questions

Swim Leg - I am not a strong swimmer  - can I still compete? Is the swim leg in the open ocean?

The swim leg of the Bronte Biathlon takes place in the Clovelly Bay (not in the open ocean), so you will be swimming in a protected area throughout the course of the swim. The swim is broken up into 2  x 200m swims, so there is an opportunity for beginner swimmers to get their breathe.

Competitors start the swim on the south side of Clovelly beach at the set of stairs  bclosest to the ocean. You then swim into the shore, run up the sand to the back of the beach and then turn around and swim out to the last set of stairs.

Provided you are able to swim at least 400m non-stop, you can compete in the Bronte Biathlon.  We will have a lot of beginners and first timers doing the biathlon, so don't worry about being a slow swimmer.

If at any time you feel stressed or like you are unable to complete the swim, you are able to jump out of the water on the north side of the bay and rest or return to Bronte (please note that you will not be given an official time).

Clothing - What should I wear for the race?

Most people will compete in their cossies or shorts and a singlet or crop top.  We recommend that you run to and from Clovelly in shoes as the ground is uneven and at times rocky.  You can buy a pair of elastic laces which will help you to slip your shoes on and off quickly at Clovelly.

New to Biathlons - I have never competed in a biathlon - will I get left behind?

We have a lot of beginners and first timers doing the biathlon, so there will be a wide range of fitness levels.

Beginners and those competitors who are new to biathlons should compete in the first wave which starts at 6:15.

Casual Membership - Can I compete on a casual basis?

Yes, you can compete in the Bronte Biathlon on a casual basis.  You still need to register before each race and ensure that you have completed the particiant's registration form before your first race.

We are also offering discounted race passes to all participants.
